As we have alot of new players I will try to give a basic explanation on how the ranking system works in counterstike. There is still a debate on the exact system, which valve has not comfirmed for us but the gemeral concensus is that it works like the Elo chess system.

The ELO rank system was made mostly for the game of chess. The Rank System is put into many games today.
If you win a match you gain points for your rank and if you lose a match you lose points to your rank. that is how the ELO rank system works.

 
You have a better chance of getting a better rank by playing against people that are a higher rank then you.

The game will predict how well you AND YOUR TEAM should do during a match and after the match finishes it will compare the prediction to the TEAM score then your personal one.

You will earn more Elo points for a clear Win, more if you win against a team predicted to do better than you! You will lose Elo points for a tragic lose, even more if your team was predicted to do better. If the game is close or a tie then it will look at player score, kills, deaths and how well you did against higher/ lower ranked players to help determin Elo points.

In order to get your first rank you will have to win 10 competative match making matches! (not COMMUNITY COMPETITIVE Andy). After the 10th you will get assigned your rank.

This will most likly be a silver 1 - 3 depending how well you have played.
