They are at it yet again...

Between 2:30am and 4:30am CDT on Thursday, August 27, we will be cutting back over to our newer router in Chicago, following hardware and software upgrades that are likely to have resolved the problem that it had which caused crashes. This adjustment will lead to a few minutes of connectivity loss for your service.

We will be carefully monitoring for problems following the switch. If the new router crashes again, we will immediately change back to the backup router, and then follow it up by entirely replacing the new router in October.

Update number fourteenhundredfiftythousand...

A few customers have reported seeing a "convert error" reported by their clients. This error should be fixed by the latest TS3 version, which we have been already using for new installs. We will be triggering an update of all other servers at 1am PST / 3am CST / 4am EST / 10am CET on Sunday, November 8. This update should cause only a brief interruption in service as the server is taken down, the new executable is copied over, and the server is started back up -- it should be less than 30 seconds long.

We also strongly recommend that all users update their TS3 clients, if they have not already. TS3 versions other than the latest contain a vulnerability that makes it possible for an attacker to change channel descriptions in such a way that clients will download and run a remote file chosen by the attacker, which may include malware.

More maintenance coming soon...

An upstream provider will be performing maintenance on one of its routers between 2am and 5:30am CST on 12/3 and between midnight and 4am CST on 12/4. This maintenance may cause brief periods of connectivity loss or increased latency for your server.

Between 2am and 5am CST on Tuesday, 2/2, we will be performing maintenance in Chicago to add another router and a new aggregation switch. We expect this to lead to approximately 5 minutes of connectivity loss for servers there during the maintenance window. If the maintenance is not successful, we might also need to roll back to the old configuration, which would lead to some additional connectivity loss (but we do not expect this).

A public service announcement from NFO Servers...

"Between 1am and 8am CDT on Tuesday, October 18, one of our upstream providers (Telia) has informed us that they will be doing maintenance on our connections. This maintenance may cause us to be unreachable by some clients for approximately 15-30 minutes at two times during the morning, they tell us."
