The post on 13 NOV 2015 has succumbed to some changes:
Added the bottom two bullets:
Intent of the Founding Fathers:
- Right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness - Declaration of Independence
- Consent of the governed
- Restrain government power

-------------------

It is important to no only clearly understand the history and documents involved in the formation of a government, but also to understand the words at the root of the issue. Previously, submitted as a list of words. Now, definitions and additional words of significance have been added. Go back to the first page of this thread and see if you agree with the following definitions: Society, Governance, Authority, Control, Law, Citizen, Representation, Soverneignty, Republic, Federation, Ratify, Contract, and Constitution.

-------------------

Added:
Origins of Power in Society -> People, Military, Money

-------------------

For 15 NOV 2015, added:
Additional Details:
- DEC 1860, South Carolina demanded the military facilities of Charleston harbor be abandoned by federal military forces
- 9 JAN 1861, An unarmed Union merchant vessel attempts to reinforce Fort Sumter.
- MAR 1861, The South sent delegations to Washington, D.C. seeking a peaceful resolution. Lincoln rejected negotiations.
- 30 MAR 1861, USRC Harriet Lane transferred to U.S. Navy service
- 4 APR 1861, Lincoln ordered a naval force to Ft. Sumter
... 3 warships (USS Pawnee, USS Powhatan, USS Pocahontas), USRC Harriet Lane, Baltic Steamer, three tug boats with barges, 300 sailors, and 200 troops
- 6 APR 1861, Lincoln notified the Governor of South Carolina

Don't believe Scriv's revisionist history. I found this interesting article, which examines the issue from both sides:

Beyond a doubt...

Provoked !!

3 warships (USS Pawnee, USS Powhatan, USS Pocahontas), USRC Harriet Lane, Baltic Steamer, three tug boats with barges, 300 sailors, and 200 troops

That is not a 'Peace' convoy.

Lincoln wanted an aggressive act and he got it.

If a potentially hostile armed naval convoy is enroute and you are tasked with defending the Charleston Harbor, what do you do?

Unfortunately, American school children have been misled to believe Lincoln was a Saint.

The Inaugural Train Ride 11-23 FEB 1861, the occupation of Maryland, and the less-than-valid secession of West Virginia are areas for analysis.

Seven states peacefully separated from the Union by State legislative votes and state citizen votes. The provocative actions of the new president resulted in four more States seceding. This is not the act of a single uneducated bystander. Sixty percent of the United States voted for candidates other than Lincoln.

The previous resupply mission had been fired upon. What was he supposed to do?

...and LBJ had JFK assassinated, aliens crashed near Roswell, etc, etc.. Show me the evidence. Lincoln was very clear on doing whatever it took to preserve the Union including military action. That is not the same as saying he desired it. It is a historical fact that it was the Confederacy that initiated hostilities by firing on Ft. Sumter.

All right, here we go,

1858 - Jefferson Davis delivers 'Preserve the Union' speeches.

While stating he desired to see the Union preserved, his main point was an assertion of "states rights." At the heart of the debate over slavery and state's rights was the idea of property. Can a human being be someone else's property? To Democrats, that's what the slaves were, and as such they had rights as slave owners. The Constitution recognizes the property in many forms, and imposes obligations in connection with that recognition. It was not the right of any other person, despite political party, to take away someone's personal property. Davis may have had practical reasons for arguing against secession and preservation of the union. He would have known as a result of his term as Secretary of War that the South was ill equipped to fight a war against the North. The weapons manufacturing was in the north as were most of the railroad lines and the majority of the male population. While he knew the people he represented were passionate, they were also unprepared. It's possible that his passionate pleas to save the union may have been an effort to peacefully save the South.

16 JUN 1858 - Lincoln's 'House Divided' speech at the Republic Convention in Springfield, IL

The main point of this speech was the untenability of the current sitiuation regarding the expansion of slavery to the territories. He was willing to concede that slavery could not be abolished in the current slave holding states (though he believed, over time it would phase out, but he was unwilling to submit to the southern desire to spread the institution to the new western territories. He understood that these two opposing ideologies would one day come to conflict. The speech was not a call to arms, but rather a recognition of the gravity of the situation.

6 NOV 1860 - Lincoln is elected (40% of the popular vote and 59% of the electoral vote)

Are you inferring here that he was not legitimately elected? Many presidents have been elected without a majority of the popular vote.

21 JAN - U.S. Senator from Mississippi Jefferson Davis issues his 'The Saddest Day of My Life' farewell speech on the U.S. Senate floor.

A far sadder day came soon after when he ordered the commencement of hostilities at Ft. Sumter.

11-23 FEB - Lincoln makes a 12 day train trip marshaling support for the upcoming conflict.

He reiterated his resolve to preserve the Union, not to start an armed conflict. It was the same message he was elected on.

19 APR - Massachusetts troops invade and occupy the sovereign State of Maryland.

"Invade and occupy?" Union troops were passing through Baltimore on the way to Washington D.C. and we're accosted by an angry mob. Here's the link to read more:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltimore_riot_of_1861

27 APR - Lincoln orders the blockade of Virginian and North Carolinian coasts
18 MAY - Union ship attacks Norfolk, VA
24 MAY - Union troops occupy Arlington and Alexandria, VA
29 MAY - Union troops occupy Grafton, VA and Union ships attack Aquia, VA
3 JUN - Union troops attack Philippi, VA
10 JUN - Union troops attack Newport News, VA
17 JUN - Union troops attack Boonville, MO
2 JUL - Union troops attack Berkeley, VA
3 JUL - Union troops occupy Martinsburg, VA
5 JUL - Union troops attack Carthage, MO
11 JUL - Union troops attack Randolph, VA
12 JUL - Union troops occupy Beverly, VA
18 JUL - Union troops attack Fairfax, VA
21 JUL - Union invasion defeated at First Manassas
6 SEP - Union troops occupy Paducah, KY
16 SEP - Union troops occupy Ship Island, MS
22 SEP - Union troops occupy Osceola, MO

All these actions "attack" and "occupy" are legitimate acts of a war, which was started by the Confederacy at Fort Sumter.
