Should we transition to Discord as our Primary VoIP Tool?

Attention Spartans,

I have taken the liberty of creating a discord for the clan. It is already set up and almost an exact mirror to our TS.

Discord is a free program that works on both computer and smartphone. The server is also free. I highly recommend that members start switching as a few of us have already been using the program with great success.

In my opinion the interface is top notch and the voice quality is much better than TS. The reliability is also solid, as our TS cut out approximately 3-5 times last night and had numerous voice issues, thanks to iwazzio. I have not had one issue with discord yet.

here is the link to our discord:
https://discord.gg/FZSQCvh

and here is the link to the application iself:
https://discordapp.com

Also thanks to Spartan0536 for the help in creating our Discord.

See you on the battlefield

edit: As members join the discord server I will be assigning their roles as they are in TS, rest assured no one is going to lose their place or be removed from the clan. Scriv, Taz, and any other admins, as soon as you join I will give full admin rights.

For the record, I did not initiate the project, I did assist Iceman with it, in making sure it was as identical as possible to ensure continuity. I also like Discord personally, and many other groups that I would normally have contacted using TeamSpeak 3 have since shut down their TS3 servers and moved entirely to Discord as its literally free.

The sever can also always be shut down if necessary at no cost to any party.

That is why I posted this here, it is not a requirement by any means, it is only a recommendation with the work already done for you, if you so chose to make the move official.

Will prepare a list of pro v con for the discussion of Discord v TeamSpeak3.

Not all bullets are created equal, and the most expensive bullets with the best packaging are usually gimmick rounds.

So far for my pro vs. cons:

Discord Pros:
-Great quality
-reliability is top notch, have not had a single drop out or connection loss.
-server and program are absolutely free
-many tweaks and automation bots available to take care of the server without having to monitor the server 24/7
-possible later integration of TFAR/ACRE for Arma 3 into the program.
-Funny sayings and mottos during start up
-lots of support and already a large community following
-once connected to a server, you stay connected and can navigate easily through the tabs on the side
-no need to install the program, can run from any internet browser
-Steam integration and automatic friend importing. Also works with twitch and many other gaming apps.

Cons:
-No integration of TFAR/ACRE...yet!
-notifications on the mobile app can get annoying if people are posting a lot of things on the chat channels (found this can be turned off)
-sending private messages can be annoying as far as going through multiple menus instead of just a double click(through further use, I found that you can easily send direct messages by just clicking the name and a popup box comes up with useful information and a direct messaging box.
-auto voice recognition is super sensitive even when manually adjusted (may be different for others, i'm using a turtle beach X11 headset)

This is just what I have so far, and more points will probably come up as I use it more and more. overall, i like this program a lot more than teamspeak and think it could really benefit the clan in terms of saving money and having less to worry about or hassle with.

- Iwazzio says he has used Discord for approximately two years and that he will be contributing to this discussion.

- On 16 AUG 2016, our clan PAID $40 for another year of TeamSpeak.

I started a thread in the PCGN Forum seeking additional feedback related to the Discord communication application.

Discord - Communication Tool
http://www.pc-gamers.net/index.php?/t ... scord-communication-tool/

PCGN has been using Discord for a while now.
1) Tell us what you think about Discord.
2) How does it compare to TeamSpeak 3?
3) Are there any features that are similar to Xfire and/or Steam?

Background:  The =SWF= Spartan War Fighter clan has been using TeamSpeak since its creation in May 2007.  The clan transitioned from Xfire to Steam as a result of Battlefield 3 using Origin/BattleLog and our clan moving away from the disappointing Battlefield series to games distributed and hosted on Steam (ArmA, DayZ, Squad, Heroes and Generals, PlanetSide 2).
