The color of ones skin wouldn't matter to me at all. Anyone that would sit, kneel, or otherwise rise against America in any way would be invited to leave the country in my eyes.
I understand what the author is trying to say and there are some good points but I also see some misguided comments. Too many times the media and promenant members of our American community focus on race especially when it comes to darker skinned people. They say it's outrage and police brutality when most of the time it is the officer fighting for his life in a given situation. There are also many records of black officers killing white "kids" but no one seems to bat an eye. It also doesn't help when the media doesn't give all the facts.
I recently saw a video of a woman trying to get her school bus under control after a student threw a water bottle. The only comment the news channel played from the video was the bus driver saying "I don't speak spanish and don't need to learn. This is America and we speak english" and was shown dribbling some water from an empty bottle on the student. She was fired and nothing was said about the unruly student who attempted battery and assaulted someone.
I believe all this boils down to a lack of parenting and a false feeling of ritousness given to people at a young age. We have lost respect for one another and lost the definition of many of our longest standing traditions.
If you want to protest against law enforcement you have that right but during the national anthem is not the appropriate venue. That flag stands for so much more and I think people in this country have lost sight of that. If you protest the flag then you are protesting the entire country and everyone who has gone before us and gave us the freedoms and rights we hold dear today.
If you protest the flag then, yes, you should not be called a Patriot.
