Dear Survivors, today we are releasing the DayZ Server Files. Anyone with sufficient hardware will be able to host their own DayZ server. You are now going to have more customization options and will be able to configure your servers directly. This, of course, goes hand in hand with new opportunities for modding as having access to the server files gives you much more freedom than ever before. It is important to mention, that even though we are thrilled to see what our community can make we are not officially supporting modding yet. Why? Mainly because some parts of the game can change a lot and we are still finishing the modding tools we want to provide to you in the future. That being said we definitely won't stand in the way of your creativity. You can read the documentation and the minimum recommended system requirements here[forums.dayz.com]. We believe that these files will help you create the unique server environment you always wanted. See you in Chernarus!

Could someone explain what the benefit of purchasing the higher ranked characters? do you get more weapons or anything?

Thanks

Viper, I think if you purchase the rank 12 (Leutenant),it enables you to deploy assault teams into the battle.

Rank 18 (Major) is commanding only like in BF2.

I could be wrong, but both of these options are way ahead of our experience.
I'm sure Scriv or Iwazzio could clarify

What he said but basically the higher rank yor character is the more money you earn from a game because your characters base salary is higher after every rank. Other than that there are no specifics to unlocks or anything for ranks only Assualt teams for the war map.

H&G v1.04 Renderer Update
#5
Not too shy to talk.
Not too shy to talk.

With the release of the Update 1.04 ‘Engine Room’ Heroes & Generals gets a new render engine providing significant performance improvements.
But before going into details, we would like to extend our thanks to our community. During the last few months you have been very helpful in testing the new render engine on the prototype server and providing valuable feedback for the developers at Reto-Moto.

BETTER PERFORMANCE
In the community’s tests of the new render we have seen a 20 percent framerate improvement on average. In the latest test on the prototype server, 70 percent of the players that took part reported either a better or much better performance.
As you might know Heroes & Generals is running on its own proprietary technology called Retox, and with the ‘Engine Room’-update the render engine code has been completely rewritten.
This was done in order to optimize it for a modern dataflow by using advanced multi-threading techniques so it better utilizes multiple CPU-cores, improving game performance.

NO MORE DIRECTX 9
Update 1.04 is a farewell to DirectX 9. We decided to end support for DirectX 9 based graphics cards. In part because most (if not all) machines with DirectX 9-only cards are too old to run the game properly. But more importantly the old technology served as a hindrance to game performance.

MIXED RESOLUTION RENDERING
The new render engine now has a feature where resolution and render resolution are split into two! This means that you can lower the render resolution while still keeping the user interface and overlays in your monitor’s native resolution. This is a way to get a better frame rate without hurting the graphics card too much. The game then scales the 3D render to fit the screen resolution. You find this in the settings in the action game, and you can always press F7 (default key) to see the current FPS and Ping in the action game.

The difference between the new render (left) and the former render (right) is not as clear on the screenshot above as it is when playing the game.

CRISPER COLORS
The ‘Engine Room’-update introduces a new tone mapping system to Heroes & Generals providing crisper and more saturated colors in the game – so take your time to enjoy the sunset.

TEMPORAL ANTI-ALIASING
In this update you have the option of a new anti-aliasing method called Temporal Anti-Aliasing (TAA). What TAA does is that it uses the previous frame to anti-alias the current one thus giving a better looking image. The main visible effect is a much more stable image with less pixel flicker when in motion. This also helps smooth the image if running a lower render resolution than screen resolution.

OTHER CHANGES
Here is a list of some additional features in the Update 1.04 ‘Engine Room’.

When playing at night have a look at the sky – stars are now visible overhead.
Heroes & Generals now available in Brazilian Portuguese translation
We have given you the option to try out a new DirectX 12 experimental setting. But as it is experimental it can yield very different results for individual players.
Updated Anti-Cheat
…and much more

Survival DLC released last week. Spartan and I have been playing it a lot. This DLC makes The Division a little harder. It's hectic and fun!!!

The Division’s new Survival mode is surprisingly good
PC Gamer

Survival is The Division’s second expansion, adding a new mode that dramatically changes how you play the game. As an apocalyptic blizzard batters New York, you find yourself stranded at the edge of the map with a basic pistol, green-level equipment, and an infection that’ll slowly kill you if you don’t keep it under control with medicine and painkillers. Your mission is to reach the Dark Zone, locate a potential cure for the Green Poison, and extract it (and yourself) by helicopter. Which would be easy if it wasn’t for the bitter cold, roaming gangs of powerful enemies, and other players who won’t think twice about killing you and stealing your beanie.

In the main game, clothes don’t matter. Play it for a few hours and you’ll have so many vaguely similar-looking shirts and hats that you’ll stop caring about finding new ones. But one of my favourite features in Survival is how each piece of clothing now has a warmth rating, and dressing appropriately is key to surviving the merciless cold outside. It creates a meaningful system out of playing dress-up with your character, and suddenly finding a new trapper hat is something to celebrate, because it might raise your temperature by a few precious degrees. You can craft clothes at safehouses scattered around the map or loot them from fallen enemies and containers.

But clothes only reduce the effects of the cold. To avoid freezing to death you have to keep an eye out for apartments, shops, and other buildings to escape into. Entering raises your temperature, offering some respite from the blizzard, but they can be hard to spot through the snow. You can also cower next to burning barrels to increase your temperature, but this is only a temporary solution. I love how different the weather makes the world feel. The howling wind, cars piled with snow, and distant lights shining through the white-out make for an incredibly atmospheric remix of the city. You can almost feel the cold biting at your face as you trudge through the storm.

Another thing I like about Survival is how it levels the playing field. All 24 players begin with the same meagre supplies and basic gear, which means you don’t have to worry about being repeatedly murdered by some jerk who has a better gun or a few levels over you. You don’t even get to bring your abilities into Survival either: they have to be crafted from looted materials. And there’s no mini-map, which encourages careful and thorough exploration of your surroundings. It does a much better job in general of making New York feel like a dangerous, desperate place where supplies are precious than the main game, which never really feels that hazardous. It’s a genuine struggle for survival, and you will die many, many times as you get to grips with it.

When you die you’re given a score based on how long you lasted, how many supplies you found, how many items you crafted, how many enemies you killed, and so on. And even if you didn’t make it to the Dark Zone and extract the antivirals, which can be extremely difficult, you’ll still get rewards for your troubles. I don’t normally have much patience for permadeath games, but whenever I died in Survival I felt the urge to immediately try again to see if I could get just a little further into the Dark Zone. Playing with friends is a much more effective way of completing the mission, especially when facing bullet-sponge elite enemies, but it’s perfectly enjoyable solo.

There are too many survival games on PC, and when I heard Ubisoft was adding a survival mode to The Division I felt no urge to play it. But I’m glad I gave it a shot, because it’s surprisingly excellent. The cynic in me expected a lazy attempt to cash in on a popular genre, however it’s clear a lot of work has gone into making Survival a legitimate, worthwhile game mode. And while New York in the main game is little more than an elaborate, albeit extremely pretty, movie set to have gunfights in, Survival integrates the apocalyptic setting and wintry weather into the game’s systems in an exciting, integral way. I used to enjoy running around the streets and taking in the sights, but in Survival I feel a sense of unease and dread around every snow-choked corner.
