The current starting spawn for the campaign map for each faction are:



American - Edinburgh & London
German - Rome & Berlin
Soviet - Leningrad & Moscow

Unfortunately, the current campaign map configuration with 23 strategic centers and two starting spawns for each faction puts the Germans in a disadvantageous disposition and the Soviets in an advantageous disposition.

In order to balance the likelihood of each faction having a fair opportunity to achieve victory, I would like to recommend we slim down the starting spawn option from two to one starting strategic center per faction.

With this first image, I would like to start by bringing to your attention the 23 strategic centers with the Germans spawning in Rome, the Soviets spawning in Leningrad, and the Americans spawning in Edinburgh.



German - Rome
Soviet - Leningrad
American - Edinburgh

The first range ring in red is from Edinburgh to London.  The same diameter range ring is centered on Rome and Leningrad.  The next range ring in orange is from Edinburgh to Paris.  The last range ring in yellow is from Edinburgh to Zurich.  The orange and yellow are also centered on Rome and Leningrad.  The green straight lines are the same length with the distance from Rome to Leningrad being approximately the same distance as from Leningrad to Edinburgh.  The distance from Edinburgh to Rome is clearly shorter than the distance between the other two proposed starting points.

For each faction's proposed starting spawn site, I would like to highlight the strategic centers found within the red range ring, then the orange range ring, and, finally, the yellow ring.



For the Americans:

Edinburgh - START HERE


RED - 2
London

Including Edinburgh, there are two strategic centers within the RED American range ring.


ORANGE - 2  [Two easy conflicts due to closer proximity to the American starting spawn]
Rotterdam  (ORANGE with this strategic center being within the YELLOW range ring of the Germans)
Paris  (ORANGE with this strategic center being within the YELLOW range ring of the Germans)

There are two strategic centers within the ORANGE American range ring.


YELLOW - 5  [Three difficult conflicts due to closer proximity to the German starting spawn]
Copenhagen
Oslo
Berlin  (YELLOW with this strategic center also being within the YELLOW range ring of the Germans)
Bordeaux  (YELLOW with this strategic center also being within the YELLOW range ring of the Germans)
Zurich  (YELLOW with this strategic center also being within the ORANGE range ring of the Germans)

There are five strategic centers within the yellow range ring with three being difficult fights.

Summary: American (9) w/ two easy & three difficult

The Americans have nine strategic centers within their three range rings with two being easy captures and three being difficult captures.



For the Germans:

This second image has 25 strategic centers (two additional) with the Germans spawning in Tirana, the Soviets spawning in Leningrad, and the Americans spawning in Edinburgh.

I believe the first proposal could assist in providing a better balanced start for the War on the Strategy portion of the game.  The second proposal provides, what I believe, would be an ideal start of the war for all three factions.
