Surprise! I got home earlier than I thought, and after driving 200 km the only sensible thing to do was to start up Assetto Corsa. After about 20 laps and a few restarts (the game complained about the lap being invalid even if I hadn't done anything wrong) I didn't only get a good lap, I got a really good lap. I was expecting to beat Wobbly by a tenth of a second at best, and that's only if I could even reach his time. Instead I beat it by 1.236 seconds with my lap time being 1:49:674. I even got another lap only 0.019 seconds away from the fastest time. Did I finally beat Wobbly? Does he have time to post yet another, even more incredible time?
WOW! What a great time Al. I didn't think you would get me. I've lost pole at last
I'm just putting the champagne back in the fridge.
Well done
It would be interesting to try some setting adjustments after this challenge to see if we can get close to the pro's 1:40's It is hard to believe these guys getting a full 10 secs faster !!
So, other than trying out last week's challenge without any tuning restrictions, do we have another challenge with another car and another track for this week?
If anyone's wondering how did I gain 1.3 seconds from nowhere, I just quickly used the brake in the corners to lose traction on the rear wheels so I could enter the corners faster. It gave me so much time I that couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the final lap time. Losing speed in the corners is a major issue, and that's a way to solve it. Brake too hard, however, and you will lose time or possibly spin out. Thankfully the M3 GT2 was easy enough to drive so I didn't have problems with that. The pros are probably using heel-and-toe techniques, but it'll take a while before I learn it.
I just found out that the P4/5 is based on the Enzo Ferrari! I haven't driven very often with it either. The McLaren MP4-12C (street version) is another one I should drive more. The track is one of my favorites, no complaints about that. As usual, everyone is free to give suggestions for the car/track combination.
My suggestion: Car: P4/5 Competzione OR McLaren MP4-12C OR Pagani Zonda R Track: Nurburgring GP
I'll try my best with the "real" week's challenge, but I'll see if I can get a faster time with the BMW M3 GT2/Imola combo by adjusting the tuning options. Last week's challenge entry has closed, so any new time you see on the leaderboard doesn't count towards it anymore. Remember to save your tuning settings for later use!
And Wobbly: if I could beat you once, I can beat you again!
I'm a bit slow on this one and will be catching up today. We will be revisiting a car we have driven before but on a different track. This one should be a lot of fun.
