After seeing the ArmA3 map size and comparisons, I thought I'd look into the PS2 maps.

This is Indar, which is 8km X 8km. The other two maps are similar in size and as they can be freely traveled between, you could say the actual playing area is 24km X 24km.

Three more maps are penciled in, one will arrive next month hopefully.

Check out Caspian Border bottom right :o

The next map (Continent)to arrive will be Hossin. This will be a dark misty swamp (a bit like the UK) , unlike the three current maps.

It has been held up for a long time but has been on trial in the Test Server. So it should be soon.

The three Continents available from release are:

Amerish ..... Green and forested

Esamir ....... White and frozen

Indar ......... Tan and desert

Here are a couple of better pics. of Indar

The first shows territory control and clearly shows NC kicking Terran and Vanu ass

This second pic.shows just the bases and 'Lattice Lines'
This newish feature means bases can only be captured in sequence along these lines. It concentrates the battle to specific areas. You can still go anywhere behind the lines to hack turrets and terminals.

At the moment Indar and Esamir have the Lattice. Amerish is having a big overhaul which will include the Lattice.

Hossin has currently been delayed to Summer of 2014 in order for developers to optimize the games further and focus on the Amerish Revamp first.

With the release of Hossin they will be trying to implement 'Continent Locking'

This is taken from the PS2 Roadmap:

Continent Locking (or the "Continental Lattice" in the post-lattice era) is on the horizon and will hopefully enhance the feel and depth of PlanetSide 2's overall metagame significantly. Here's what the basic plan looks like so far:

Each of our current continents (Indar, Esamir, Amerish) becomes a home continent for an Empire
Each empire has a single “Home Warpgate” on their home continent that can never be taken from them
All other warpgates can now change hands like regular territory (details here still being worked out, so let us know if you have ideas)
By taking control of a warpgate, your empire can now advance along any continental lattice connected to it
Hossin is given three warpgates, one connected to Indar, one to Esamir, and one to Amerish. There is no home warpgate on Hossin.
Battle Islands fall between continents on all the links not leading to Hossin

Interesting. Not sure if I like the idea of loosing whole continents. What if your faction gets isolated to just part of your home continent?

Also, I wonder which would be your home continent?
I presume it would be rotated as the warp gate positions are at the moment.
