The driving continues...

Worn tires, bent metal, and determined drivers.

Can just a fraction of a second be shaved off the overall race time?

Stay tuned...

Who would be up for creating a League for SWF drivers, has anyone looked into it?

I think for starters you need to register on 'Racenet' on the DiRT Rally website.

And also merge accounts with Steam ?

Anyway, I found this guide on all the cars very useful. Once you purchase a car you cannot sell it, so it is important to make the right choice.
There is also a good explanation of basic setups for different surfaces.

Thanks Wobbly thats really useful info. Think I am now signed up and have my steam account linked.
What cars is everyone using. Mine so far have been:
1960's mini- great fun to drive
1970's Stratos-good once you get the hang of it
1980's Cosworth- dont like it much feels really heavy

Here is my list starting with the Hillclimb.

As soon as you can afford it buy the Peugeot 405 T16. (don't bother with the others)
This car is mind blowing and is also (mostly) controllable.
Pikes Peak is quite intimidating at first, but you will get to know it and earn big money to buy all the other cars (and pay for your crew!)

So here are my cars bought with my hillclimb earnings:

1960's
Mini Cooper S (better and lighter)
Lancia Fulvia HF

1970's
Ford Escort Mk ll (all rounder plus I was scared of the Stratos!)

1980's
BMW E30 M3 (not used it yet)

Group B
Peugeot 205 T16 (a monster but not raced it yet)

Group A
Subaru Impreza 1995 (currently using this in a championship and is nice after the RWD cars!)

2010's
Ford Fiesta RS (not used it yet)

I have been going on that guys advice (above Steam link), and he seems to be on the mark so far eg. your Cosworth Viper. That's why I went for the BMW although I haven't raced it yet. I think it will be my next choice for a championship.

Wow Wobbly you have been earning some cash . Think I need to save up for the 405 and start racing Pikes Peak. The sooner I can move on from the cosworth the better

Pikes Peak is the way to go Viper

You can run a Pikes Peak championship alongside a conventional rally championship.
I do it just to buy cars and pay the crew.
'PP' is mainly tarmac so it can throw you off a bit when you return to mud and ice etc.
Once you get that 405 you will be raking it in

PS: Don't just drop out of a championship because you don't like the car. You will be relegated to the level below. Try and avoid finishing in the bottom three and you can choose a new car for another attempt.

There was a force feedback update a small time ago. Either my Finnish rally driver blood has failed me or they've changed something vital, because now I can barely stay on the road. Or maybe I'm just out of practice.

As for the Tarmac terrors update, looks fine at the first glance. Five new cars and 12 new tracks - although they are all based on two long tracks. They are just short pieces of the two long ones, also coming as mirrored versions. Driving on pure tarmac is very different from the usual gravel roads, and the track shape is very different from the rest with their little chicanes and multiple 90 degree turns with rocks preventing cutting. There's also a lot of viewers in there, so most of the time it's impossible to cut corners at all. Strangely, the tarmac often seemed much more slippery than gravel or even snow.

Here are the new cars:
Opel Kadett GT/E 16v
Opel Manta 400
Lancia 037 Evo 2
Seat Ibiza Kitcar
Peugeot 306 Maxi

I can't say much about the few I did try quickly, since it was just a short test. The Peugeot 306 has a very short first gear and it's front wheel drive, so it's a change from the RWD and AWD cars. Just point the front where you want to go and floor it. Understeering can be good in the right conditions.
