What will happen to Battlefield 2 and the great mods? Bohemia Interactive have said that they'll figure something out so the Arma titles can be played, but a lot of games have an unknown status at the moment.

What about Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory? Could we (we meaning me and someone who I lure into playing those games) still connect to each other via direct IP? Or should we use, for example, XFire?

"You won't be able to play PR in its current state, as PRLauncher requires you to log in using an online account before you can join an online server (whether it's through the server browser, or through Join by IP). Most you'd be able to do is use an offline account to play against some bots.
It's not the end of the world though, the servers can be reverse engineered easy enough, and things adjusted to work to get everyone playing, but certain functionality may be lost."

Provided we come up with something that works, to the average player, you're not going to notice anything different at all. Likely, the most you'll have to do is create a new online account. Not a big deal.

As a side note, there's a lot of smart people from other BF2 mod teams, and from the gaming community overall (remember, there's a rather large amount of games affected by this). I'm sure between the lot of us we can figure something out, and come up with something that everyone can use and benefit from. We're not those kind of people that don't like to share .

But anyway, yes, PR:BF2 is affected, but no, PR:BF2 will not die. Absolutely not, no way, put too much time and effort into this game for it to go out like that. And that's really all you need to know."

"You can all chillax. Spitfire is looking into it and apparently already knows what to do. I'd imagine we will roll out the solution before servers go even down. Worst case scenario: You need to make a new profile and lose your 762 stats."

"keep calm everyone, we will definitely release technical update before gamespy servers go down. ATM it looks like awards/stats wipe will occur, as there is no safe way to preserve gamespy PID (Player ID) into new database, but it is all case to change yet."

"There has been talks in FH2 too... a custom login server would mean basically the game becomes Free To Play (F2P) since there is no checks for cd keys.

So this should be a good thing, definitely more players for FH2 and PR if its F2P. "
